Hide Memory Card Readers from the Picture Library

If you have a memory card reader on your Media Center computer, you may notice that under the Picture Library there are a bunch of extra entries for either "Storage Device" or "Portable Device".  These entries are very annoying because you can't actually do anything with them unless there is a memory card in the device.

You can hide these by doing the following:

  1. Open the Device Manager (you can type “Device Manager” in the search bar from the Start menu to find it).
  2. Expand the “Portable Devices” section.
  3. Disable all of the devices that correspond to your memory card reader (it is probably all of the devices under here).
  4. When prompted saying that the device will stop working, click the “Yes” button – don't worry, your memory card will still work fine.
  5. That's it. Your memory card readers will still work just fine, and inserting memory cards while in Media Center will still work as expected, the only difference is that the drives won't show up under your Picture Library any more.
